Kaltura - How to Edit your Video Captions

On March 25, 2018, automated captions, powered by Cielo24, were enabled in Rutgers MediaSpace, powered by Kaltura. When a video is uploaded to MediaSpace via the standalone website or through Rutgers Canvas, Moodle, or Sakai captions are generated using automatic speech recognition.  This service provides 70-95% accuracy.  Video owners will need to review and edit their captions for accuracy.

If you are an instructor in a course that uses Moodle, Canvas, or Sakai you may wish to notify your students to report any errors to you. Include a note in your syllabus that all captions are machine-generated and to contact the instructor regarding inaccuracies.

Editor Overview

The editor is comprised of three parts. The left pane contains the transcript. The center pane contains the player controls and the editor. The right pane contains tabs for shortcuts, editor settings, and speakers to add names of different speakers. The Bulk Edit Tool may be used to modify text in your caption files in one window, as an alternative to navigating the block interface.
